The boys in the lane had gathered again.
They were playing a game of cricket.
Tarun was fielding at the far end.
The boundary line was a fence.
As he was fielding Tarun heard the cry of a puppy.
He turned back to see what was happening.
Behind the fence there was a house.
A little boy was there in its veranda hitting a puppy with a stick.
Tarun felt so sorry for the pup.
“Why are you hitting the puppy” he asked the little boy loudly.
The little boy stared at Tarun for a few seconds.
“He is not eating his food” he replied after a while.
“You should not hit him” Tarun insisted.
The boy looked at with Tarun with anger.
“He is my puppy” the little boy declared stubbornly.
“You may lose him if you hurt him like this” Tarun told the boy.
“He will leave you and go looking for a kind owner” he added.
The boy stopped hitting the puppy instantly.
Tarun was glad that he had managed to save the pup from much pain.
What did Tarun hear when he was fielding?
Why was the boy hitting the pup?
What did Tarun say the puppy would do in the event of the boy hurting him?
