Mother was reading a book.
Tara sat next to her.
“Why Tara?” mother inquired.
“Amma which is better, being good or being clever?” Tara asked.
“Being good is better than being clever” she said.
“If someone is both good and clever that’s even better” mother added.
Tara was amused by mother’s reply.
“Why is being good better Amma?” she posed a question
Mother started explaining.
She said when one is good that benefits the society at large.
“How can one be good?” Tara inquired.
“One has to be kind, caring, generous and forgiving” mother explained.
“Do you know anyone like that?” mother asked.
Tara started thinking and turned towards mother.
“You” she told mother flashing a big smile.
Mother was surprised, but she was touched by Tara’s compliment.
She gave a big hug to Tara.
What, according to mother, is better than being clever?
What, according to mother, are the qualities of a good person?
Why did mother hug Tara?
